Patrol Torpedo Boat PT-109 COBI Historical building blocks 4825

The American PT-109 patrol boat is the largest and most detailed model in COBIs history! The set includes 13 figures inspired by the famous ship captain and his brave crew. The record-breaking 3,726 blocks allowed for a realistic recreation of the historical unit in a 1:35 scale model (scale matches the figures). The model measures 72 cm in length and includes a beautiful stand. The patrol boat also surprises with its fully reproduced interior! After the deck is easily removed, the crew quarters, technical rooms, and engine room with their equipment are visible. The set features durable pad-printed decorations. Moving equipment elements, a removable deck, mapped weapons, and a realistic shape make this model an exclusive gift that will satisfy not only history and military enthusiasts but also all enthusiasts of building blocks and discerning collectors. It is impossible to pass by such a giant model! Build a story, block by block!

The torpedo boat PT-109 went into service in 1942 in the Pacific. On August 2, 1943, it was rammed by the Japanese destroyer Amagiri, causing the patrol boat to sink. In a crisis, the unit commander and future President of the United States, John F. Kennedy, managed to save the entire crew. His actions made him a war hero!

The patrol boat was manned by a crew of 12-17 people. The last mission was attended by 13 crew members led by Captain Kennedy. PT-109 was powered by three 1500 hp (1100 kW) Packard 12-cylinder gasoline engines. The boats speed was approximately 41 knots (76 km/h). PT-109 had a single 20 mm Oerlikon anti-aircraft gun at the stern. On the threshold of their final mission, the crew installed a 37 mm anti-tank gun in the bow. The boats main offensive weapons were its torpedoes. PT-109 was equipped with four 21-inch (53 cm) torpedo tubes containing Mark 8 torpedoes. It was also equipped with two depth charges and double-mounted heavy machine guns.
